After a brief illness, Frank Sam Corso, 84, of Weirton, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2010 at his home. His loving family was at his side. Frank was born in Weirton on September 27, 1925 to Thomas and Anna Cefalu Corso. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Rose Spinella and Josephine Carangelo and his brother August "Gus" Corso. With 25 years of service, Mr. Corso retired from Western Southern Life Insurance Company, where he won many service awards, including the 1966 East Liverpool District Man of the Year. A true American hero, Frank served his country during the Normandy Invasion on D Day on an LST 982. During his Naval career, as a Motor Machinist, Frank was a recipient of the Victory Medal, and the Pacific, American and European Theatre Ribbons. On October 22, 1955, Frank married Gladys E. Roadway, and together they started a family and built a loving home in Weirton. When he was not working, and during his retirement for the last 27 years, Frank could often be found tending to his vegetable garden. He enjoyed puttering around his garage, cooking and running his model train sets. He also enjoyed traveling to Florida and visiting his son and family. Pap as he was affectionately known to his loving and cherished grandchildren was always supporting and cheering his grandchildren on at all of their sporting events. Surviving include his wife of 54 years Gladys Corso and their children, a son Thomas A. Corso and his wife Cynthia of Ormond Beach, FL; and their daughter Cindy Wypasek and her husband Mark of Weirton; four loving grandchildren, Jacob N. and Zakery T. Wypasek, Isabella Corso and Francesco DeAnglis; several nieces and nephews and his longtime friend, Joe Farran. Friends will be received 2-5PM Monday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 5PM Monday at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church. Military Services will be conducted at the conclusion of the Mass. Although I didn’t personally know him, knowing you and also experiencing the loss of my mother in february, I can relate to some degree the pain and void you are having to deal with. Please call our home if there is anything we can do as you take the necessary steps to move forward until you are together again which is promised to us all in Christs name.

I have a lot of fond memories of Frank, I remember your dad helping Tom Herron’s dad build an addition on our tire storage barn at Bandag.
