george grysko
George J. Grysko 78 of Palisades Drive, Weirton, came to his final rest, Tuesday evening, January 25, 2005 at his residence. He was born March 12, 1926 in Weirton, a son of the late Peter and Julia Wypasek Gryszko. In 1998 he was preceded in death also by his beloved wife of 49 years, Stella Munyas Grysko, whom he married on November 5, 1949. Also, five brothers, Walter Gryszko, Victor Gryszko, Martin Gryszko, Stanley Setlak and Joseph Setlak, and a sister Alyce Kotchka. Surviving are two sons, Gregory Grysko and his wife, Patty Matthews, of Rockledge, Fla., and Gary Grysko and his wife, Terri Sellitti, of Weirton, one sister, Mrs. Theresa Zimmerman of Weirton; one brother, Henry A. Setlak of Ocala, Fla., and several nieces and nephews. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, Weirton. In 1965 he was appointed co-chairman of the building committee by the Rev. Fr. Emil Dobosz, former pastor, to oversee construction and the erection of what is now the Sacred Heart of Mary Church and school complex on Preston Avenue. Mr. Grysko, upon working in various departments at Weirton Steel Corp., retired with 45 years of service in 1991, from the Industrial Relations Department, serving on the staff of the Safety Department. He was a veteran of World War II, attached to the 1st Divison of the United States marine Corps, stationed in Tiensen, China. In his community activities and services, Mr. Grysko was a volunteer with the Steel Works Community Federal Credit Union, having served on various committees. He was appointed in 1995 as its president by the Board of Directors. Mr. Grysko was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Panhandle Post 2716 of Weirton, and held membership also in the Tri-State Marine Corps Club, Weirton Elks BPOE 1801, Savage Athletic Club, Knights of Columbus Msgr. D.P. Murphy Council 3734, and the Management Club, and 25 Year Club of Weirton Steel Corp. Friends will be received Thursday 2-4 and 6-9 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held 10 AM Friday at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, with the Rev. Fr. D. Kent Durig as celebrant, and Atillio Boni as organist.
