George J. Kapiris

George J. Kapiris, 82, of Weirton, died Thursday, December 18, 2003 at the Weirton Medical Center. He was born April 16, 1922 in Kardamyla, Greece, a son of the late Dimitri and Irene Kapiris. He was also preceded in death by one son, James George Kapiris on April 3, 1997.
George retired with 33 years of service from Weirton Steel and National Steel. He currently owned and operated the Senior Citizens Coffee House in Weirton, which he founded shortly after his retirement. He was a member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church and the Order of the A.H.E.P.A. He served his country in the Navy during WWII.
George is survived by his wife, Callie (Angelo) Kapiris of Weirton; one son, Gus (Julie) Kapiris of Chester; three daughters, Irene Kapiris of Ramrod Key West, FL, Patricia “Trish” Kapiris of Weirton, and Carolyn “Cookie” (Jim) Thorne of Paris, PA; one sister, Maria Kapiris of Pyrias, Greece; four grandchildren, Yeorgo, Christopher, Gusty, and Lindsey; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 PM Friday at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Additional visitation will be Saturday from 10 AM until time of funeral services at 11 AM at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, Weirton. Burial will follow at the Greek Section of Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
