George “Chuck” Mrvos, 88, of Weirton died Saturday December 15, 2007, at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. He was born on April 23, 1919, in Mingo Junction, OH, a son of the late Theodore and Mildred Yurevic Mrvos. Chuck was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Mrvos. Chuck graduated from Weir High School and remained a loyal supporter of the school where he enjoyed attending numerous sporting events over the years. He served his country in the US Army 120th Infantry Company B Engineers in Africa, Italy, Germany and France during World War II. Chuck retired after 39 years of service as a stove tender and turn foreman in the Blast Furnace of Weirton Steel. His favorite pastimes were betting the horses and playing golf. He was a member of the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church, VFW 2716 and the Mountaineer Woodview Golf Course. Chuck is survived by his wife, Eileen O’Donell Mrvos, whom he married on April 20, 1947; his three daughters, Kathy and Ed Bowman, Millicent and Mitch Zack all of Weirton, WV, Patti and Howard Craighead of Cary, NC; his sister, Ann Gillette of Chicago, IL; his four grandchildren, Kristen Cross, Nicole Hasley, Kelli and Julie Craighead; and his four great grandchildren. Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 PM Tuesday at the Greco- Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, where funeral services will be held 12 noon Wednesday with The Very Reverend Father Rade Merick presiding. Interment will follow at the Serbian Cemetery, Weirton, with military services conducted by the American Legion and the Weirton Honor Guard. A Pomen service will be conducted 7 PM Tuesday in the funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church, 528 N. Fourth Street, Steubenville, OH 43952.
