george ostrich
George Ostrich, of Weirton, WV passed away Friday, September 1, 2017 at Weirton Medical Center. Born in Steubenville, OH, he was the son of the late George and Josephine Babasina Ostrich. He was also preceded in death by his sister Margarite Zaltani and brother in law Mike Zaltani. George retired from Weirton Steel where he was a railroad track repairman. He served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 2716. Known to many as a private person, George’s passion in life was collecting antique cars. He was in his glory when attending car cruises. He was a proud member of the Fort Steuben Street Rods. George enjoyed having coffee and conversations weekly with his good friends. Their group was often referred to as the Road Kings. He was led to Christ through the efforts of Bishop Craig Greathouse. He is survived by his sister, Stella Hawkins and brother in law Carl Hawkins of Wintersville; nieces, Carla Hawkins of Naples, Florida, Diane (Jack) Pool of Canfield, Ohio and Rhonda (John)Clevenger of Wintersville; great nieces and nephews, Alyssa (Ryan)Abraham, Alexa (Nick)Martinek , Alec Pool, Kaleigh, Tyler, and Jacob Clevenger, and Brandon (Jackie)Lash; and three great nieces. George was blessed with many loyal friends. Those friends remained by his side through his illness to the end. A private memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Mount Calvary Cemetery with Bishop Craig Greathouse officiating. Military services will be conducted by the American Legion Honor Guard and the West Virginia National Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Family of God Christian Center, 4215 Wells Street, Weirton, WV 26062. The family would like to thank the caring staff in the critical care unit at Weirton Medical Center, Trinity Medical Center West, Acuity Specialty Hospital, his good friends who assisted George in his time of need, and Nurse Elaine and staff at Serra Manor.
