George Village, Jr., 91 of Weirton passed away at home Tuesday, March 13 at 9:30 PM He was born August 24, 1909 in Steubenville, OH the son of the late George and Rafira Coman Village, Sr. He was also proceeded in death by three brothers. He leaves his wife, Mary Verdea Village, whom he married Stepember 20, 1941, his daughter, Carol and son, George, III all at home. Also surviving are one sister, Mary Golden of California and one brother, John of Weirton. George was a retiree of Weirton Steel with 49 years service as a superintendent in the Strip Steel Shipping Department. He was a volunteer with # 1 Company Fire Department from the 1920's through the 1940's. He was an owner operator of two Penzoil Service Stations in Weirton in the 1930's. He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church where he served as head usher for fifteen years. He was service manager for Village Automotive (his son's business) from 1988 to 1991. At the age of 16 he was one of the city's first sign painters before Weirton was incorporated. He lettered Weirton's police curisers in the 1950's through the 1980's. Visitation will be Thursday 7-9 and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. A prayer service will be conducted at 3:45 PM on Friday. Services will be Saturday March 17 at Saint Thomas Episcopal CHurch at 10:00 AM. Interment in Chestnut Ridge Cemetery, Florence. PA. Memorial contributions may be made to the Saint Thomas Episcopal Church, 300 Three Springs Drive, Weirton, WV 26062.
