Gerald A. “Jesse” James, 69, of Weirton died Friday, June 19, 2020, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Jesse was born to Elmer Lee and Margaret B. Nagy James on July 28, 1950. He graduated from Follansbee High School in 1968 and attended the College of Steubenville on a basketball scholarship.
After college, Jerry, as he was known to his family, went to work at Weirton Steel, where he eventually retired from the Environmental Department in 2001.
His early retirement allowed Jesse to play many years of golf. Competitive from birth, he enjoyed winning matches at the Cadiz Country Club, where he was a long time member. Around his home, he loved to spend time in his garden and enjoyed experimenting in the kitchen with new recipes.
Most of all, Jerry will be remembered for his fun-loving nature, always telling jokes and great stories.
Jesse was a member of the Moose Lodge 688 and the Cadiz Country Club.
He will be remembered with love by his wife of 33 years, Nancy Yee James; his brother, Kenneth, and Mary Lou James; his nephew, Kenneth and Kristin James, II; and his great-niece and nephew, Kenzlee and Kamden James.
Visitation will be 11:00 AM until the time of funeral services at 1:00 PM Monday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton.
Very Rev. Dennis R. Schuelkens Jr., V.E.. will preside.
Jesse’s family would like to thank the Teramanna Cancer Center and Dr. Aaron Provenzno and his staff, along with Kyra, Denise, and Angelica of Valley Hospice for all the love and care they provided to Jesse.

Jerry was a great man, and came from a great family. I knew Jerry back in the 1776 Restaurant days. His wonderful brother Kenny was the owner and I got to know Jerry thru the restaurant and family. We had many good times back then and Jerry was very fun loving. He had a Harley Davidson and he would take us for rides on the bike.
My condolences to Jerry’s family. I remember playing basketball with him at FHS and Picker football.

Kenny, I was saddened when I read that Jerry has passed. I have may good memories living across the street from the James family. Many BB games, your dad always working on cars in the garage, Spot (our neighborhood dog) your wonderful mother always so welcoming. May he Rest In Peace and our good Lord comfort you and family as you mourn his loss and cherish his memory.
