geraldine gaydos
Geraldine Wascavage Gaydos, formerly of Weirton, WV, passed away peacefully at the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center in Florida on August 2, 2021, at the age of 84. Born on April 23, 1937, in Cleveland, Ohio, Geraldine was raised with love by her late mother Florence and her late step-father, Clyde Brauer. Geraldine was widowed on April 5, 1983, and never remarried after the death of her husband, Edward Gaydos. The holiday seasons were a favorite time for Geraldine. She had a passion for decorating the family home and filling the air with the aroma of freshly baked cookies. But, of course, if she weren’t decorating or baking, Geraldine would be playing bingo. But, even though she enjoyed those things, nothing could compare to her most cherished moments in life, the time she spent with the family she so dearly loved. Never focusing on herself, she always made others, especially her family, her priority. As her family recalls, Geraldine did have her driver’s license but chose not to drive. Although she was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Weirton, she occasionally attended mass at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church since it was within walking distance. She had a love for everything, God, family, and a host of friends at Freedom Place II, all of whom will miss her dearly. Surviving and left to carry on Geraldine’s memory are her two sons, Mark (Suann) Gaydos of Morgantown, WV and Paul (Carolina) Gaydos of Bradenton, FL; her only daughter, Linda (Jerry) Robinson of Weirton, WV; and her three cherished grandchildren, William, Alexis, and Nikole Gaydos. Never wanting to be the center of attention, Geraldine’s wishes for no visitation are being honored. Instead, her family invites all friends to join in the celebration of Geraldine’s life by attending a 9:30 am final blessing service on Friday, August 6, 2021, at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. All those wishing to attend will then follow in procession to the 10:00 am Funeral Liturgy at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Weirton. The Father Vasyl Symyon will officiate. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Geraldine’s memory to the St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 3116 Elm Street, Weirton, WV 26062.
