Harley B. (Skip) Lawrence, 91 of Weirton, died Sunday October 7, 2001 at the Weirton Medical Center. He was born on January 5, 1910 in Adams Tennessee, the son of the late George Bradley and Rosa Bell Sampson Lawrence. His brother George M. Lawrence and his sister Kathleen Shields also preceded him in death. Skip retired from Weirton Steel Division of National Steel as a chemist after 47 years. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Weirton for over 50 years. He also was a member of the Weirton Steel 25 year club, AF & AM Lodge 171, Osiris Temple, Past Commander of the American Legion Post 10, Past Noble Grand of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, past Fire Chief and Life Member of the Cove Station Company 2 Volunteer Fire Department. His wife, Megretta Earley Lawrence, whom he married on November 4, 1932, and his daughter, Barbara Trushel and her husband Mark of Weirton, survive. His grandchildren, Craig Trushel, Christine Trushel Hinchee, Kimberly Trushel and one great granddaughter, Taelor Catherine Costello, also survive him. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, where funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday. Interment will follow at Chestnut Ridge Cemetery in Florence, PA with military graveside services conducted by the American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard, VFW 2716 Firing Squad and the Tri State Marine Corp.
