Harry Ameredes

Harry Ameredes, 90, of Weirton, passed away Friday, March 16, 2012 in the Weirton Medical Center. Born October 31, 1921 in Canton, OH, he was the son of the late Theodore Harry and Theodora Ameredes. He was also preceded in death by two brothers Gus and Harito Ameredes and one sister Helen Ameredes. With 40 years of service, Mr. Ameredes retired from Weirton Steel where he worked in the Tin Mill. He was a member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church and the All Saints Senior Citizens. In his younger years, Harry played Linebacker for the W.I.U. Semi Pro Football Team. He was an avid woodcarver and artist, having won numerous awards. His work has been published in three different woodcarving books. Harry served his country in World War II Special Forces OSS and was awarded the Bronze Star. Harry, as many in his generation, lived the American dream and made this country what it is; a better place for their families to live. His faith and determination has been instilled into his children and grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. Mr. Ameredes is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ann Kolakis Ameredes; son Ted Ameredes both of Weirton; daughter Nikki Ameredes of Detroit, MI; four grandchildren Harry (Amber), Theodore James (Samantha), Alex (Rachel) Ameredes and Anna (Jim) Kuhn; four great-grandchildren; brother Vasso Ameredes of Akron, OH and sister Beba Kono of Florida. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1-3 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Trisagion Service will be held at 7:30 PM. Additional visitation will be held Monday from 10 until the 11AM funeral service at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church. The Reverend Father Frank Milanese will officiate. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens with military services being conducted by the American Legion Firing Squad.
