Helen Rees, 97, of Weirton, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at the Golden Oaks Residential Board & Care in Follansbee, WV. Born September 9, 1909 in Martins Ferry, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Sarah Emma John Rees. Helen was also preceded in death by her brothers Samuel J., William H. J. and Thomas G. Rees. With 47 years of service, Helen retired from the General Offices of Weirton Steel. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Wellsburg Chapter 23 Order of the Eastern Star, AREME Club and was a volunteer at Weirton Medical Center. Helen’s survivors include her sister Margaret J. Rees; nieces Iris V. Rees, Holly Yarter and her husband Larry all of Weirton and Patricia Wagner and her husband Ralph of West Des Moines, Iowa. The family will receive friends Saturday 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where Eastern Star Services will be conducted at 7 pm. Additional visitation will be conducted Sunday from 1:30 until the 2:00 pm funeral services at the First United Methodist Church. Reverend Chuck Jerman will officiate. Private interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Anderson Children’s Home, May Road, Follansbee, WV 26037.
