Helen Sagan died peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday May 21, 2014. She celebrated her 92nd birthday on January 17, 2014. Mrs. Sagan was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Mitchell Anthony Sagan on April 3, 2006; her parents, and her siblings, Andrew Super, Anne Knowles, Marge Super, and John Super. Born in Lorraine Ohio to Andrew and Sophia Rusin Super, Helen was the fourth of five children, She graduated from Follansbee High School at age 16 as salutatorian of her class. Despite full scholarship offers from several colleges and universities, Helen opted to pursue a career, beginning at the JA Mendenhall Real Estate Company in 1938. Years later, she became the manager of the mortgage loan department of the Citizens Bank of Weirton. She served as secretary treasurer of the Weirton Savings and Loan Company and was on the board of directors of the Weirton Osteopathic Hospital. In 1952 Helen married Mitchell Sagan, also of Weirton, WV. The couple had two children, Deborah and Mitchell "Chip" Sagan. In 1974 Helen and her husband, Mitchell Sagan, established Sagan's Hallmark on Penco Raod in Weirton. Their lives were deeply enriched and blessed by wonderful friends, customers and an incredible staff, whom they regarded as family. The Sagan's retired in 1991. Mr. and Mrs. Sagan were members of Sacred Heart of Mary Church, and Mrs. Sagan was a former member of the Christian Mothers of Sacred Heart of Mary Church. Mrs. Sagan is survived by her children and their spouses, Deborah and Bill Wiebe of Cincinnati, OH and Dr. Mitchell A. "Chip" and Jennifer Sagan of Weirton, WV; four grandchildren, William and Laurel Wiebe of Cincinnati, OH and Mitchell and Nicholas Sagan of Weirton, WV. Mrs. Sagan was a loving, devoted and inspiring mother and grandmother. She will long be remembered for her insightfulness, wisdom, grace and kindness. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Friday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:45 PM on Friday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Saturday at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, Weirton. Interment will follow at Saint Paul's Cemetery, Weirton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church 200 Preston Avenue Weirton, WV 26062.

  4. I have the most wonderful memories of Helen. She was always so kind to me when I would visit my grandfather J A Mendenhall. She would take me home with her to spend the night and we would have so much fun. I was about 8 years old at the time. I will never forget how polite and welcoming her children were when my mom, Wilma Mendenhall and I would visit her in later years.
