Helen Therese Lagod, of Weirton passed away Friday, May 8, 2020 in the Weirton Medical Center. She was 89.
Born December 24, 1930 in Wheeling, WV, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Antonina Magda Mastalerz. She was also preceded in death by her husband Roman Ted Lagod on June 7, 1994, whom she married August 23, 1952; brothers Walter, Frank and John Mastalerz and sisters Stella, Rose, Mary and Stephanie Mastalerz.
Proud of her Polish heritage, Helen was a homemaker and a very active member of Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church. She loved attending the Polish picnics every year.
Mrs. Lagod is survived by her sons Louis S. (Mary Kay) Lagod and Stephen Lagod of Weirton; daughter Monica (Steven) Gable of Boardman, OH; grandchildren Justin (Carly) Gable, Alexis (Lou) Santangelo, Derek (Dani) Gable and Andrew Gable; her beloved seven great-grandchildren, and her many nieces and nephews.
A private family-only Liturgy of the Word Service will be held 2PM Monday, at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV, with interment to follow in St. Paul Cemetery. Rev. Fr. Anthony G. Thurston will preside.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart of Mary Church 200 Preston Avenue Weirton, WV 26062.

When permission is granted by the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Helen at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church.

We’re so very sorry to hear of Helen’s passing. She has been a good neighbor and friend for many years. We will miss her very much.
I will forever cherish the memory of Aunt Helen as a loving mother, aunt, devout woman of faith, strong in her beliefs and convictions, and proud of her Polish heritage. She was a devoted sister to her younger sister, Rose Ann, for the many years they had one another. She is a role model for family unconditional love and loyalty. My special memory is the joy I experienced when I was 6 years old, as flower girl for her wedding. I still recall how awesome it was to walk down the aisle spreading rose petals in the Church in my special dress. Rest In Peace, Aunt Helen, in the loving arms of God, Uncle Roman, and your family.
