Henry Pendergrass, Jr., 79, of New Cumberland, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 in the Weirton Geriatric Center, Weirton, WV. He was born in Union, SC on March 15, 1932, a son of the late Henry and Sillar Pendergrass. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers William and Robert Pendergrass, sister Mabel Stevens, beloved brother-in-law James Spencer and cousin Larry (JB) Jeter. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and the company of his family and friends. Henry was a faithful and hard working employee of Weirton Steel who never missed a day of work in his 43 years of service. Henry is survived by his loving wife Karen Pendergrass of New Cumberland; four daughters Teri Fields of Cincinnati, OH, Joanna Starkweather (Randy) of Nashville, TN, Valerie Curtis of Atlanta, GA and Cheryl Pendergrass Snyder of Columbus, OH; one son Gary Pendergrass (Diane) of Steubenville, OH; four brothers Richard Pendergrass of Union, SC, Paul Pendergrass (Normie) of Canton, OH, James Pendergrass and Hugh Pendergrass (Ruth) of Weirton; four sisters, Hazel Dawkins of Union, SC, Anna Mae Spencer of New Cumberland, Lucille Colliers and Dorothy Lee of Weirton; nine grandchildren, Derek Demond Pendergrass, Summer Pennie, Teryl Pendergrass, Catherine Pendergrass, Derrick Ray, Corey Curtis, Camela Harris, Devin Snyder and Quintin Snyder; 4 great-grandchildren, Deshea Pendergrass, Jazmin Pendergrass, JaCorey Curtis, Mara Pendergrass; 1 great-great grandchild, Desmond Adams and a host of relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1-3 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where funeral services will be celebrated 11:00 AM Monday. Major Earline May will officiate. Interment will be in Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee, WV. Memorial contributions may be made to Valley Hospice, 10686 State Route 150, Rayland, OH 43843 or Salvation Army, 332 North 4th Street, Steubenville, OH 43952.

  4. I worked with Jr. in the BOP and he was ALWAYS willing to help get things done. I never heard him complain about hard work. He was the best dozer operater I ever worked with. May the good Lord give him all the best in his life to come. My life has been better because I knew him. Great man….
