homer smith, sr.
Homer T. Smith Sr., 81 of Weirton, died Friday December 1, 2000 at the Weirton Medical Center. He was born in Monessen, PA, the son of the late Homer and Julia Keifer Smith. He was preceded in death by his four sisters, Agnes Koltak, Elizabeth Mackey, Clara Marks and Rita Latchic. Homer retired from Weirton Steel with 43 years of service. He worked in the Blast Furnace Electric and was a Steward for 29 years and a former committee man. He enjoyed golf and was the first golf coach at Weirton Madonna High School. Homer had nine HOLE IN ONES, was the former Club Champion at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Weirton and was a member of the Woodview Golf Club (Mountaineer Golf Club) for 35 years. He was a member of Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Weirton, the Knights of Columbus 3734 and the Moose Lodge 688. He was also a member of the Weirton Steel 25 year club. He is survived by his loving family, which include his wife, Pauline Long Smith; three sons Homer T. Smith, Jr. of Manasquan, NJ, David Lee Smith of Peachtree City, GA and Patrick J. Smith of Charleston, SC; two daughters, Mrs Donald (Ellen) Crain of Roswell, GA and Mrs. Enzo (Beth) Fracasso of Weirton; a brother Francis Smith of Arleta, CA; 10 grandchildren; a great grandson and a great granddaughter. Visitations will be 1-3 & 7-9 PM Sunday December 3, 2000 at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV Members of the Knights of Columbus 3734 will recite the rosary on Sunday evening at the funeral home. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 AM Monday, December 4th at the Saint Joseph the Worker Church. Entombent will be in Saint Paul Cemetery Mausoleum.
