inez oliver
Inez M. Oliver, an amazing, strong-willed and independent mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on December 28, 2020. She was 97 years old. Born on May 29, 1923 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Inez and her twin sister, Anna, were the first born of six children to Nick and Italia Berarducci. Inez’s family moved to Follansbee, West Virginia, where she spent her childhood and early adult years before moving to Weirton, West Virginia after marrying Anthony “Sonny” Oliver. On May 29, 1957, at the age of 32, her husband, Anthony, died as a result of a heart attack and Inez was left on her own to raise two young children. To provide for her family, she worked four part-time jobs, which included cleaning Cove Valley Lumber and Citizen’s Bank. Once her children were in middle school, she was hired to be a full-time cook for Weir Junior High (Middle School) and retired from there after 17 years. Inez nourished her faith at Saint Paul Church in Weirton, where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers. Even when she was not able to physically help with fundraisers, she would often crochet and donate afghans to be raffled off. Inez enjoyed playing bingo, card games, making pasta-fagioli and home-made sauce with spaghetti, as well as crocheting and making crafts. Crocheted afghans were her specialty. She enjoyed the “Italian Hour” on the radio every week. Her favorite time was spent with her grandchildren, taking walks to “the corner-store,” playing games with them and making sure they were always provided with junk food and treats and teaching them how to crochet. Her favorite music was Christmas songs, Italian songs and anything sung by Dean Martin. In addition to her parents and her husband, Inez was preceded in death by grandson, Mark Oliver, great-granddaughter, Anna Danielle Shultz, her son, Charles “Chuck” Oliver, her twin sister, Anna Crocetti, her sisters, Angeline Kurcina and Evelyn Manley, her brothers, Pete and Isidore Berarducci and her son-in-law, Pete Wounaris. Inez will be remembered with love and admiration by her daughter, Cecilia M. Wounaris, her daughter-in-law, Cynthia Oliver, her grandchildren, Carrie (Edwin) Shultz, Casey (Oliver) Stone, Michayla Dobosz, and her great-grandchildren, Caleb Louis Charles Shultz, Philomena Marie Stone, and Venus and Dean Dobosz. Private family viewing and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church. Interment will be in the Saint Paul Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Paul Church Memorial Fund, 140 Walnut Street, Weirton, WV 26062. Share tributes at www.grecohertnick.com

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I first met Inez as a pre-teen at Weir Junior High downtown. She was our friendly “lunch lady.” She was always kind and strong in maintaining order in the auditorium lunchroom. Our paths, again, were parallel from 1990-1993 during my time at St. Paul’s. Those were special days with all the Oliver family that I still cherish. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to all the family. I hold you all in prayer as your grieve this profound loss. Certainly, she rejoices now in God’s awesome presence with loved ones forever. She is your angel in heaven! Love and prayers, Stan Tuchalski
