Irene H. Vargo Szuch Slanchik

Irene H. Vargo Szuch Slanchik, 94, of Weirton, died Sunday, December 8, 2002 at the Brightwood Nursing Home in Follansbee, WV. She was born July 22, 1908 in Hungary, daughter of the late John and Poli Reho Vargo. Also preceding Irene were her husbands Andrew Szuch in 1957 and John Slanchik in 1985; 3 brothers, infant George, John and George Vargo; and two sisters Elizabeth Murray and Goldie Kintz. Irene was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Weirton. She was also a member of The Hungarian Club, The Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, William Penn Association Lodge #349 and a past member of The Golden Age. She is survived by two sons Andrew J. Szuch and his wife Jane of Ellenton, Florida and Joe Szuch and his wife Myrtle of Weirton; two daughters Irene Pirigyi of Niles,OH, Grace Quinlan and her husband Paul of Toronto, Ohio; two step-sons George Slanchik and his wife Sophie of Weirton and John Slanchik and his wife Pat of Oregon; step-daughters Jean Nyman and Theresa Herkle both of Virginia; sisters Emma Bowman, Mrs. John (Lillian “Dolly”) Douglas both of Weirton, Pearl Daughtery of New Cumberland and Helen (Honey) Littieri of Ft. Myers, Florida; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. Visitation will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2:00-4:00PM and 7:00-9:00PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM on Thursday, December 12 at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Paris Cemetery.
