James M. "Michael" Summers
December 22, 1955 ~ March 24, 2020
James Michael Summers, a friendly, loving family man passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. He was 64.
Michael, as he was known to everyone, was a Weirton native, graduating from Brooke High, then going on to serve 4 years in the Army. He spent time serving in Germany receiving the National Defense Service Award.
Always busy doing some sort of project, Michael was a wiz at home construction work, and was always willing to lend a hand.
Michael was preceded in death by his father James Duane Summers and brother Mitchell Summers.
Left behind to cherish his memory is his mother Shirley Yonley Summers; life-long companion Carol Goss; daughter Jessica Wood; Carol’s children Ashley and Kayla; grandchildren Lantz Summers, Gavin and Julia Owings and Arleigh Goss; brothers Dave (Linda) Summers and Randy (Colleen) Summers and sister Diane (Fred) Morton.
Per the family’s request there will be no services scheduled. Arrangements are under the care of Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home.

Mike has been like a brother to me for as long as I can remember. He was funny, kind loving and a great friend. I will have many fond memories of him and will miss him and our friendship. Rest In Peace, Mike.
Please accept my condolences. I am German and I live in Bamberg, Germany. Michael was stationed here while he served in the Army. He was young SP4, assigned to the 240th S&S Co., 71st Mt. Bn and worked in an US Army Self Service Store. I was the civilian supply clerk of that store, 19 years old and became a friend of MIchael. When he had to leave Germany I lost contacts. He told me about his home in Weirton and talked about his father, being the owner of a bar and how he will support him once he returns to the states. He really missed his family while he was stationed in Bamberg. With Face Book coming up I started to look for him but I was not successful. Now I finally find his name on internet and I am deeply saddened by the terrible news. I only knew him for a short time but I feel honored and privileged to have known him at all. Eduard Mayer
