James Edwin “Jim” Russell, 66, of Weirton, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2019 in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Jim was born May 7, 1953 in West Chester, PA, a foster son of the late Joseph and Florence Taylor Fisher. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kaitlyn Green; sister Betsy Russell, foster sister, Barbara England and foster brother, Howard Fisher. Jim made a career in serving his country in the United States Army from 1975 until his retirement in 1996. After retirement he worked as a civilian with the United States Army Reserve Unit in Oakdale, PA. Jim enjoyed fixing things and working on cars. Around his home he enjoyed gardening and riding his John Deere tractor. Many family and friends were the recipients of his handcrafted bird houses. Jim will be remembered with love by his wife, Cheryl Gray Russell of Weirton, whom he married June 15, 1973; son Steven James (Valerie) Russell of Colliers; daughter Melissa (Jim) Finley of Abingdon, MD; brothers, Walter and Paul Russell; foster brother Joseph Fisher; sisters Maryann Gouldner, Jeanette Mahon, Carolyn Trego, Betty Lou Scoggin, and his twin sister Joyce Church; foster sister Constance Macneal; grandchildren, Adam and Ryan Green, Matthew, Wesley and Hudson Russell; great grandchildren, Hannah, Hailey and Landon Green and Millie Green who will be arriving in October 2019. Jim’s cremation is under the care of Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV 26062. Interment will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
