James Lee Adkins

James Lee Adkins, 57, of Weirton went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 11, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born February 16, 1953 in Portsmouth, OH, the oldest son of Marjorie Burns Adkins and the late Harold Lee Adkins.
After serving his country in the United States Army, Jim worked as an upholsterer with his parents at Adkins' and Son Upholstery in Weirton. Later, he worked for Gene Sanes Upholstery in Pittsburgh, PA. Jim loved his work and regretted the day he had to give it up due to his illness. Jim loved taking care of and spending time with his beloved family and ever-growing circle of friends. He enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, skiing and knee boarding with his family and friends. He was an avid fisherman, WVU and NASCAR fan.
In addition to his mother, Jim is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Lorrie Jean Ford Adkins; son Brian James Adkins of the home; daughters Stacie Marie Adkins Muhart and her husband Kenny of Weirton and Amanda Jean Adkins of Venice, CA; brother Keith Adkins and his wife Veronica of Colonial Heights, VA; sister Cheryl Kissel and her husband David of Weirton and two grandsons Kenny Muhart II and Chance Preston Busby. Always included in their loving family are pets Biscuit, Chloe and Maggie Mae.
Family and friends will be received Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV where funeral services will be held 11AM Friday. The Pastor James Channing will officiate. Immediately following the funeral service on Friday, Jim's family invites friends and family up to their home on Weircrest.
Memorial contributions may be made to James L. Adkins Academic Memorial Scholarship Fund or the Weir High Soccer Boosters, Red Rider Road, Weirton, WV 26062.

to Cheryl, Keith, Mrs Adkins,wife Lorrie and children, my heart is saddened to hear that Jim, your dear brother, husband, father has left us, it is so very, very sad, words just cant even express my sorrow enough, but hopefully you will find some comfort knowing that Jim was known and loved by so many people. He got to see everyone he knew and loved in life recently and I know that was a great gift to himself and also to everyone that was there for him at his recent benefit, I would liked to have been there and wish I could be there now, for it is the love and support of family and friends that will get you through, Jim will live on in the hearts and souls of everyone he knew in life. My condolences to Jim’s family and friends. I met him during his benefit dinner and it was clear he was loved very much and gave much love in return. I felt blessed to have met him. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

I pray for God’s strength and courage for our Family and Friends during one of the most trying times in our lives. I pray that Jim is looking down from heaven, shuffling his feet on those streets of gold watching over us and keeping us out of harms way, we can all use another guardian angel. Lorrie Its hard to believe we only met a few years ago on the river. You and Jim made us feel like part of your family and Mick and I loved the time we got to spend with the two of you on the island. Dear Margie, Keith, Cheryl, Lori and children and grandchildren, I will always remember all of you from Adkin’s and Son Upholstery, across the street from Fed One, where I worked and got to know what a special and fun family you were. I know how much you’ll miss Jim and I hope that you are comforted in knowing that he is up there in heaven, with his “Dad”……I believe that we will all meet again and until then, I pray that your wonderful memories of Jim will sustain you all.
