james diantonio, jr.
James Paul DiAntonio Jr., of Weirton passed away peacefully at Valley Hospice Care Center North on Sunday, July 17, 2022, after a three-year courageous battle with cancer with his loving wife Ginnie by his side. He was 75 years old. He was born on March 8, 1947, in Steubenville, the eldest child to James and Anna Dato DiAntonio Sr. James nourished his faith at Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church and was a proud member of the Weirton Madonna graduating class of 1965. He retired from the former Weirton Steel Corporation with over thirty-eight years in the Tin Mill. He served his country proudly as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. His family described James as a kind, generous man with a big heart and a great sense of humor. His humble demeanor would always lead him to put others first, making sure his friends and family were at the center of his life. James was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler and Penguin fan, on football Sundays, you would not be able to contact James or his brother Joseph fifteen minutes before kickoff because they would do their pre-game warm-up discussing the outcome of the game. His passion was golf, playing since high school, and developing his skills into a great golfer known to many. His brother-in-law Greg was and always will be thankful for the time he had taken to explain the game and provide pointers that have helped him develop into the golfer he is today. If James wanted to discuss Penguin Hockey within the family, he was always certain to include his sister Lisa. Their conversations would not always lead them to an agreeable outcome but at the end of the day, they were still cheering for the Penguins. The love he had for his wife Ginnie was on display for everyone to see. The years would not pass that on their anniversary, a bouquet of roses would show up at the door. They had forty-six wonderful years together, entering into matrimony on July 17, 1976. Ginnie and James enjoyed traveling taking trips to Hawaii and making several stops in Florida. James was preceded in death by his parents. James will be remembered with love by his wife of forty-six years, Virginia “Ginnie” Will DiAntonio, brother Joseph (Cindy) DiAntonio, sister Lisa (Greg) Barr all of Weirton, nieces Allison DiAntonio, Gina Schooler, Maura McCarthy, Caitlin McCarthy, great nephew Michael Schooler and special cousin Jan (Mike) McCarthy. Friends and relatives may visit with Ginnie and her family from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Wednesday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home where Liturgy of the Word Services will be conducted on Thursday at 11 AM. The West Virginia National Guard and the American Legion Post 10 will provide military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Valley Hospice, 10686 OH-150 Rayland, OH, 43943. Our family extends a heartfelt thank you to Jim’s caregiving team, Dr. Giridhar Santebennur’s staff, Weirton Medical Cancer Center, Home Health Care and Valley Hospice for their compassionate care.
