Jay Alan Horton, 66, of Follansbee passed away, Thursday, April 14, at Weirton Medical Center. He is survived by his wife Georgene Horton of 43 years, son John, fiancé Catherine Miller, granddaughter Anastacia Horton and grandson Dylan Horton, of Follansbee, mother Wilda Horton and sister Cheryl Utz of Weirton, and brother Gary Horton of Florida. Jay was a big hearted guy who delighted being with family and friends. A serious lake and salt-water fisherman, his home was adorned with his fishing trophies and equipment. He particularly loved boating and fishing for muskies in Lake Chautauqua, NY, where he kept a second residence. He was a life-long season ticket holder of the University of Pittsburgh football program where he spent many Saturdays rooting the Panthers from his 50-yard-line seats. All of us will miss his booming, hearty greetings, his laughter, and knack of storytelling. No one he ever met left as a stranger. After 30 years at Weirton Steel, Jay finished his work career as a wheelchair escort at the Pittsburgh International Airport. His wheelchair rides were a treat to anyone leaving or coming through Pittsburgh, as Jay would leave them with a “safe travels” message and a smile. He is preceded in death by his father Gene Horton. He is also survived by in-laws Steve and Joanne Clary Apesos of Boston, nephews Marc Apesos and Cory Utz and wife Megan, nieces Mary Apesos and her husband Scott, Chelsey Horton and Carley Utz and 2 great nieces and 2 great nephew’s A 2PM Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, June 25, 2022 at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Pastors Carol McKay and Larry Barkley will co-officiate.   8. Georgene, John, and Family, Jay was one of the kindest men I know. He always had a “Yo Baby” when he came into the the store. Always a smile on his face. He always had a story to tell. He was a favorite customer. I didn’t see him as much after I left the store but He will never be forgotten. I am so sorry for your loss.
