John A. "Jack" Cummings

John A. “Jack” Cummings, 89, of Weirton, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2020, in the Woodland Hills Assisted Living. He was born September 4, 1930, in Irwin, PA, a son of the late Andrew and Nettie Leger Cummings. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Lemsky Cummings, second wife Mary Jane Davies Cummings; son Michael Cummings, brother Gale Cummings, sisters Gladys Shaw and Cass Cummings Biondi and grandchildren Julie and Joseph Cummings.
With 38 years of service, Jack retired from Weirton Steel where he served as a foreman in the Steel Works Powerhouse and was a member of St. Paul Church. He was also a member of the Weirton Moose Lodge 688, Weirton Elks Lodge 1801, Knights of Columbus 3734, Three Score Senior, AARP, and the Holy Name Society. He also served his country in the United States Navy.
Jack is survived by his son Mark (Jenny) Cummings; grandchildren, Michelle Cummings, Melissa Cummings, Michael Cummings II, Megan (Shane) Lundy, Christina Cummings, and Joshua Cummings; ten great-grandchildren; brother Howard Cummings; two step-grandchildren and step-children, Susan Lee, William Davies, and Brian Davis.
Friends will be received Friday 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am Saturday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. The Reverend Father Anthony G. Thurston will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, where military services will be conducted by the United States Navy and American Legion Honor Guards.

My condolences to Jack’s family. I’m not sure I’ve ever met a nicer man. He was very dedicated to St Paul Church and School and was always ready to serve others. The word “no” was not part of his vocabulary. He always said yes when someone asked for help. I will miss seeing him at church and around town but I will smile when I think about him asking Jesus “what needs done?”.

Dear Mark, I just came across the obituary of your father. I am very sorry. My mom and your dad had just a great visit the day we saw you in Weirton. My mom is in Chicago with my brother and is getting worse day to day. My brother was to put her in a home but is now delayed due to Covoid-19. I am sorry to read that Mr. Cummings has passed. I met him through his involvement in the St. Paul’s Community. Mr. Cummings was a tireless, devoted volunteer. He was one heck of a nice man. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
