John Edward Tennant, 73, of Colliers, WV, departed this life Monday, August 2, 2004 at the Weirton Medical Center. He was born July 22, 1931 in Paden City, WV, a son of the late Ora Edward Tennant and Gladys Minnie Hawkins Tennant. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Junior Tennant and Jerry E. Tennant. John retired with nearly 27 years of service from National Steel where he worked in the Coke Plant. He served his country honorably in the United States Army in Korea. He was a proud patriot and had great respect for the flag and his country. He was a member of Weirton First Church of the Nazarene. He converted several years ago and maintained his faith in the Lord until his death. John was a gentleman who loved his family and his wife Rosemary. He loved his grandchildren and was extremely proud of his great grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by those who loved him so much. John is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rosemary Loy Tennant, of Colliers, whom he married on August 5, 1953; four children, Edward T. Tennant and his wife Brenda of Follansbee, WV, Michael E. Tennant and his wife Judy of Steubenville, OH, Christy Kay Lucas and her husband John of Weirton, and John R. Tennant and his wife Nina of Colliers; two brothers, Gary Eugene Tennant and his wife Lavada of Corona, CA and Robert Tennant of Newport News, VA; one sister, Mary L. Tennant and her husband Rev. Vaughn R. Davis of Colliers; step-mother, Micha Tennant of Wellsburg, WV, and her sons, Edward Dennis of Poway, CA and Charles Dennis of Follansbee; 12 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Additional visitation will be Thursday from 10 AM until time of funeral services at 11 AM at the Weirton First Church of the Nazarene. Rev. Vaughn Davis and Rev. Dana Snodgrass will preside. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Colliers, with Military Services conducted by the American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard and the V.F.W. #2716 Firing Squad.   15. Dear Rosemary, I am writing on behalf of your grandson, Christoper, who is currently in bootcamp and soon to graduate with honors as a Marine. I’m sure John was proud of this. I wish Chris could have talked to him about life & Military Life. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to. Nobody knows when God will call them home. All the more reason why, we should all cherish our loved ones and be closer as a Family. God Bless you all & may you find strength, knowing you will see him again, in a much better place.
