John Forgie, 84 of Weirton died Friday, February 2, 2001 at the Weirton Medical Center. He was born on Friday July 14,1916 in Turtle Creek PA, the son of the late Joseph Nicholas and Edith Josephine Baker Forgie. He was also preceded in death by 2 brothers and 5 sisters and 1 grandchild. John retired from the University of Pittsburgh Police Department after 35 years of duty. John was a recipient of the Purple Heart when he was wounded while moving an injured buddy to safety while serving his country in the US Marine Corp during World War II. He is a member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, a Life Member of the VFW 2716 and a former member of the Tri State Marine Corp. He is survived by his wife, Lillian Landow Forgie of Weirton; a son, David Soltow and his wife Virginia of Monroeville, PA; 2 daughters, Linda Baer of Simpsonville, SC and Mrs. John (Lois) Malinosky of Oakdale, PA; 2 brothers, Jim Forgie of McKeesport, PA and Donald Forgie of Murrysville, PA; 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Visitations will be 7-9 PM Sunday and 2-4 & 7-9 PM Monday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, with the Rev. Betty Shaw officiating.
