John Frank Soplinski, 88, of Weirton died Friday August 1, 2008, at his home. He was born on October 11, 1919, in Weirton, WV, the son of the late Louis and Josephine Malinowski Soplinski. John was also preceded in death by his three brothers, Vincent and wife Rose, Chester and wife Julia, and Julius Soplinski, and his wife Virginia; his sisters, Mary Beraducci and her husband Bill, Casmira (Kitty) Vagnoni, and her husband Bill. John retired after 32 years of service from Weirton Steel, where he worked on the Skin Mill in the Tin Mill Department. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He is a Disabled American Veteran, receiving the Purple Heart for injuries received crossing the Rhine River in Germany. John is a member of Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Weirton Steel bowling and golf leagues. He was also a member of the AARP. He is survived by his wife Charlene (Hall) Soplinski, whom he married on August 2, 1947 in Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church by Father Weinheimer; his son, Gary and his wife Susan Soplinski of Weirton, WV; his daughter, Janice and her husband Dr. Mark Robinson of Morgantown, WV; four grandchildren, John Soplinski of Pittsburgh, PA., Matthew Soplinski and his wife Lorraine of Orlando, FL., Todd Soplinski of Tampa, FL., and Brian Robinson, of Morgantown, WV. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-7 PM at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 AM Monday at the Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weirton, WV. Rev. Fr. Larry Dorsch will preside. Entombment will follow at the Saint Paul Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Valley Hospice Northern Service, 380 Summit Avenue, Steubenville, OH 43952, or to Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church, 140 Walnut Street, Weirton, WV 26062.
