John George Mellis

John George Mellis, 83, of Annapolis, MD, formerly of Weirton, passed away Tuesday November 13, 2018 at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore, MD. Born April 6, 1935 in Weirton, he was a son of the late George J. and Mary Makricostas Mellis. He was also preceded in death by his wife Helen C. Giovanakis Mellis and twin brother James Mellis. John was a member of the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church and the Weirton #171 Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed oil painting and traveling to Atlantic City with his wife, Helen. He is survived by his daughter Marie Keeley of Annapolis, MD. During his last days, he asked his daughter to put her face against his to bring them closer together. He will be missed. He is also survived by his sister Irene Pidgeon of Frederick, MD. Friends will be received on Friday from 6-8 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St., Weirton, where a Trisagion Service will be held at 7:30 pm. Funeral services will be held 10 am Saturday at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church with The Reverend Father Frank Milanese officiating.
