John Ivan Spetek

Surrounded by his loving family, John Ivan Spetek, 83, of Paris, PA, passed away Monday, November 22, 2010 at his home. Born June 22, 1927 in Slovan, PA, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary Yordana Spitek. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Joseph E. Spetek and Bogdan Susan and sisters Hilda Tomich and Mary Hundley. In 1988, with over 39 years of service, John retired from Weirton Steel where he worked as a bricklayer. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Canonsburg, PA, Croation Fraternal Union in Canonsburg and the WSX 25-Year Club. John enjoyed playing horseshoes, gardening, yard work, polka dancing and croation music. Every year in July and November, he attended the Polka Festival in Seven Springs, PA and in September, he always attended the Annual Cokeburg Croation picnic. He built an open barbeque pit in his back yard where he enjoyed barbequing. For the past 60 years, on December 23rd, he roasted fresh hams for his family and friends. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Spetek is survived by his wife of 61 years, Julia (Matyuf) Spetek of Paris, whom he married April 10, 1949; daughters Nancy Dankovchik and her husband Lenny of Weirton, Anna Marie Spetek of Paris and Shirley Resnik and her husband Don of High Falls, NY and three grandchildren Michael Rockovich and his wife Jen of San Francisco, CA and Karen and Jenna Resnik of High Falls, NY. Friends will be received Wednesday 6-8 pm and Thursday 1-3 and 6-8 pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton where Parastas services will be held Thursday evening at 7pm. Funeral Services will be celebrated 10am Friday at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Canonsburg. Interment will be in Oak Springs Cemetery, Canonsburg.
