John K. Svokos

John K. Svokos, 87, of Weirton, formerly of Florida, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at the Weirton Geriatric Center. He was born in Chios, Greece, the son of the late Constantine (Gus) and Maria Makrinos Svokos. His wife, Despina, also preceded John in death. He retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corporation, after 30 years of service. He was a member of the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, and the AHEPA Lodge in Tarpon Springs, FL. John served his country in the US Army, during World War II. He is survived by his brother, George Svokas of Weirton; his sisters, Anna Rizakus of Pittsburgh, PA, and Angelina Glyptis of Weirton; his nephews, John G. Rangos, Sr. and Peter Glyptis of Pittsburgh, PA, Chuck, Nick and Tom Svokas, Mark and Ted Glyptis, all of Weirton; a niece, Vivian Dunn of Texas. Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 PM Wednesday, at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Additional visitation will be 10 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM Thursday, at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, Weirton. Rev. Dean J. Dimon will preside. Trisagion services will be held at 8 PM, Wednesday in the funeral home. Interment will be in Paris Cemetery, Paris, PA. The American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard, VFW 2716 Firing Squad and the Tri State Marine Corp will conduct military graveside services.
