john kosanovich
John M. Kosanovich was born on January 22, 1916, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Vojo and Sarah Vuckelich Kosanovich. He had three brothers, George, Pete and Eli, and a sister Mildred. When he was 6 years old he moved to Nevada, with his aunt and uncle, Eli and Smilja Kosanovich. When he was 11 they moved back to Weirton. John graduated from Weir High School in 1934. On June 11, 1939, John married Rose Munas, and together they had three sons. His love was his family, they always came first. John worked at Weirton Steel, where he retired, in 1979, after 38 years as a rigger in the steelworks. He was an avid golfer. In his retirement years he enjoyed golfing daily with his friends, at the Pleasant Valley Country Club. He was a member of the Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church, Serbian Men’s Club, SNF Lodge 78, Moose 688, Weirton Steel 25 year club. On Monday August 11, 2003,at the age of 87, John passed away, in his home on Marland Heights. He is survived by his wife Rose, and their three sons Eli and Terri of New Windsor, NY, George and Loretta of Wilmington, DL, and John and Debra of Weirton; a niece, Carol Stewart; six grandchildren, Joan, Kristin, Jennifer, Amy, Lisa, and Steven; three great grandchildren, Michael, Emily, and Macy; a brother, George of Long Beach California; many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 PM Wednesday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday. Very Rev. Rade Merick will preside. Interment will follow at the Serbian Cemetery. A Pomen Service will be held 8:30 PM Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church or to the Valley Hospice.
