John Plesa, 95, of Weirton passed away Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Inn at Wyngate. Born on June 6, 1919 in Blaine, Ohio he was a son of the late Michael H. and Catherine Zavacky Plesa. He was also preceded in death by his wife Margaret "Peg" Luscher Plesa, a brother Michael J. Plesa and a sister Anna Plesa (Sister Maria Michael). Mr. Plesa was a 1936 graduate of Weir High School and received a BS in Chemical Engineering from WVU in 1941. From 1937 until his retirement in 1980, John worked in the Quality Control Department of Weirton Steel retiring as Assistant to the Vice President. He was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, the American Iron and Steel Institute, American Society of Testing and Materials and the American Institute of Steel Engineers. He served on a number of committees including the committee on Tinplate of the International Organization for Standardization as a United States representative. Mr. Plesa was a long time member of the former Pleasant Valley Country Club, Weirton Elks Lodge 1801, VFW 2716, Weirton Moose Lodge 688 and the Knights of Columbus 3734. He also served his country in the United States Marine Corp. during World War II. Mr. Plesa is survived by two sons Michael A. Plesa (Diane) of Weirton, WV and John L. Plesa of Brecksville, OH; three grandchildren John A. Plesa, Christopher M. Plesa (Claudia) and Maura M. Murphy (Brad) and three great-grandchildren Michael W. Plesa, Natalia and Alina Plesa. Visitation will be held Monday from 2-4 & 6-8pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St. Weirton where Parastas services will be held at 7:30pm. Final Blessing will be held Tuesday at 9:30am in the funeral home followed by the 10AM Funeral Liturgy at St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Weirton. Interment will follow in St. Paul Cemetery with Military Services conducted by the American Legion Honor Guard. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, 3116 Elm St. Weirton, WV 26062 or Madonna High School, 150 Michael Way, Weirton, WV 26062.

    My Uncle John was a great guy. I have the fondest memories of holidays and Sundays sitting at the big table laughing and eating with him, Aunt Peggy, you two, my Mom and Dad, David, and of course, Baba and Grand pap. I loved the house on West St.

    Uncle John always sent me a birthday card and kept me up on family news. I will miss that. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you.
