john bryan, jr.
John Stewart “The Bear” Bryan, 77, of Weirton, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at the Weirton Medical Center. He was born January 30, 1928 in Newell, WV, son of the late John S. Bryan, Sr. and Sylvia DeBee Bryan. He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara in 2003 and brother George. He was retired superintendent of the Transportation Department of Weirton Steel, served in the Merchant Marines and as Justice of the Peace for Hancock County. He is survived by brother James W. Bryan of New Cumberland; sister Sarah Ramsey of Calcutta, OH; son John S. Bryan III of Weirton; daughters Patricia Hosler of Riverview, FL, Janice Wagoner of Sebastian, FL, Tamara Sponaugle of Weirton; two step-daughters Donna Smith and Rhonda Banfield both of Weirton; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was a member of Cove Presbyterian Church, Master Mason Weirton Lodge 171, 32nd Degree Wheeling Scottich Rite, belonged to Osiris Shrine Temple, past president of the Northern Panhandle Shrine Club, lifetime member and trustee of the V.F.W. Post 3526 in New Cumberland. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge 688 and the B.P.O.E. 1801. Friends will be received 2-4 and 7-9PM Wednesday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton where funeral services will be conducted 11AM Thursday. Reverend Michael Lenno will preside. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens with graveside services performed by New Cumberland V.F.W. Post 3526 and Weirton Lodge #171 A.F. & A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, c/o Osiris Temple, Box 2048, Wheeling, WV 26003.
