John Waskevich of Weirton, a loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2020. He was 91. John was born in Steubenville, OH on December 23, 1928, the firstborn son to William and Mary Pacorek Waskevich. John grew up in Steubenville, OH, and attended Big Red High School. When he was around 16 or 17 years old, John went to work for Weirton Steel, a career that spanned over four decades. He retired as a pipefitter after 43 years of service. At the age of 21, he married Mary Blanar. They were married over 70 years and were blessed with two sons. a daughter, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. John and his wife loved to travel in their motorhome. John enjoyed the outdoors. He cherished the times he spent with his sons, and his friends hunting and target shooting. For awhile John and Mary lived in Port Richey, Fl, but they moved back to Weirton to be with family. Besides, his parents, John was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Waskevich; his brother Julius; and his great-grandson Hunter Waskevich. John will be remembered with love by his wife, Mary Blanar Waskevich; his sons, William J. “Bill”(Joyce) and Paul Waskevich; his grandchildren, Mandy (Charles) Ingram, Jessica (Scott) Barron, Tabitha (John) Bucy, Adam, and Matthew Waskevich, and Missy (Ivan) Stein; and great-grandchildren, Max and Xandra Ingram, Noah and Zane Barron, Aleah Waskevich, Jacob Wetzel and Jonathan Stein. Visitation will be Wednesday 4 PM until 7 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home. A Panikhida service will be conducted at 6:30 PM. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday at the funeral home. Rev. Fr. Andrew P. Nelko will preside. Interment will follow at Saint Nicholas Orthodox Cemetery, Weirton.
