Joseph Edward Reed, 80, of Colliers, died Wednesday, January 14, 2004. He was born on July 7, 1923, in Colliers, WV, the son of the late Chill Taylor Reed and Essie M. Davis Reed Joe retired, as a welder, in the Strip Steel Department, of Weirton Steel Corporation, after 27 years of service. He served his country in World War II, in the US Army Medical Corp, stationed in Japan. He was a member of the Weirton Steel 25 year club. He enjoyed his work, his church, and his family. He was a very active member of the First Church of the Nazarene, in Weirton, for over 60 years. If he saw there was a job to be done, he did it. He held numerous positions at the church including Church Board Member, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, and Usher. Joe is survived by his wife, Betty Wright Reed, of Colliers, whom he married on July 7, 1942; his two sons, Larry Edward Reed, and his wife Sherry, of Colliers, WV; Ronald Allen Reed, I of Colliers, WV; a daughter, Karen Reed Gehrling, and her husband Gerard, of Uniontown, OH; three sisters, Eva B. Catlett of Colliers, WV, Della Chilensky of Toronto, OH, and Vera Benoschek of West Rogers Arizona; five grandchildren, Monta Sue Van Gilder, Ronald Allen II, Kenneth Ray, David Richard, Joseph Edward Reed.; eight great grandchildren, many friends, and church family. Visitation will be 7-9 PM Thursday, and 2-4 & 7-9 PM Friday, at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV Additional visitation will be 10 AM until the time of service at 11 AM, Saturday, at the First Church of the Nazarene 475 Colliers Way, Weirton, WV. Rev. Dana Snodgrass and Rev. Vaughn Davis will preside. Interment will follow at the Saint John Cemetery, Colliers. WV.
