Joseph Paul Molchan, 86, of Weirton, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2019, at Weirton Geriatric Center. Joseph was born January 4, 1933, in Weirton, a son of the late Joseph and Anna Molchan. He was a 1952 graduate of Weir High School and retired from Weirton Steel Corp.’s Strip Steel Department after 34 years of service. He was a member of the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club and attended St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church and St. Joseph the Worker Church in Weirton. Joseph also served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force and was an avid fan of Weir High, WVU and the Pittsburgh Steelers. In addition to his parents, Joseph was proceeded in death by a sister Ann Freeze; three infant sisters Mary, Veronica and Julia; an infant brother Joseph; two brothers-in-law Robert Freeze and Michael Garan; and one great-nephew Robert Ballato. He is survived by his sister Olga Garan; nieces Michele Ritchie, Roberta Ballato and Sharon Kester; nephews Michael Garan and Robert Garan; and 20 great- and great-great nieces and nephews. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with Fr. Vasyl Symyon, pastor of St. Mary’s, officiating. There will be no visitation. Interment in St. Paul Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 3116 Elm Street, Weirton, WV, or the Serra Foundation, 2525 Pennsylvania Avenue, Weirton, WV.
