Joseph Porco

Joseph Porco, 96, of Weirton, passed away Monday, November 9, 2009 in the Valley Hospice Care Center North, Steubenville, OH. Born October 2, 1913 in Calabria, Italy, he was a son of the late Bonaventure and Giuseppina Veltri Porco. He was also preceded in death by his wife Catherine Gialle Porco on October 12, 2003, brothers Frank, Jerry and Aldo Porco and sister Lena Osso. In 1977, Mr. Porco retired from Weirton Steel where he worked in the Tin Mill Lab. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, WSX 25-Year Club and the Mingo Knights of Columbus 4361. When he wasn't tending to his garden, Joe volunteered his time at Trinity Medical Center. He enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends. Joe is survived by his sons Ben Porco and his wife Nancy and Anthony Porco and his wife Mathia all of Steubenville, OH; daughter Josie Porco and her husband Sam of Weirton, Lil Checca and her husband Joey of Columbus, OH and Dolly Scurti and her husband Rich of Steubenville; sister Giovanna Brusco of Cliffside Park, NJ; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Thursday from 2-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10AM Friday at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church with The Reverend Father Dean Borgmeyer officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton.
