Joseph R. Duco, 79, of Weirton, WV died Wednesday, March 1, 2017, in Weirton Geriatric Center. Born July 17, 1937, in Steubenville, OH, he was a son of the late Patsy and Rose Lopresto Duco. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Bruno Duco, and a brother, Rocco T. Duco. Joe retired from Weirton Steel as a tin mill supervisor. A veteran of the United States Army, Joe was a member and usher of Saint Joseph the Worker Church, a member of Knights of Columbus 3734, where he served as Past Grand Knight. He was also a former member of the Weirton Madonna Athletic Board, and past president of the former Pleasant Valley Country Club. Joe also volunteered his time with St. Paul's School Bingo and Weirton Little Steelers as a football coach. He is survived by his son Joseph (Rena) Duco of Toronto, OH; daughters Daria (Michael) Lutz of Lexington, KY, and Nancy (Steve) Montgomery of Pickerington, OH; brother Dominic (Linda) Duco of Wintersville, OH; sisters Patricia (Robert) Waltz of Charleston, WV, and Donna (Kerry) Frank of Fountain Valley CA; grandchildren Chelsea Lutz, Michael Lutz II, Emily and Abbey Montgomery. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 1 PM Saturday, March 4 at St. Joseph the Worker Church. Father Dennis Schuelkens, Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow in Saint Paul Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Anerican Legion Honor Guard and the US Army..   4. I’m sorry to hear of his passing. When I came back to Weirton in 1980 to be sports editor of The Daily Times I got to know this man very well. Young Joe was playing linebacker for Madonna and I covered those games. Joe was so kind to me and we became good friends over the next few years. I enjoyed our talks about football and life. Thanks for befriending me and allowing me to get to know your wonderful family. I recall a cookout or two at your home and it was always a fun time. RIP Joe.

  11. Joe, Daria, Nancy, As a young teacher, Joe had a profound influence on me. He was that rare individual who was honest, direct, and shared his zest for life without reservations.
