joyce apesos
Joyce Elizabeth Apesos, 87, of Weirton, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2021. Born in Sussex, England on February 13, 1934, Joyce was one of two children born to Arthur and Rose Suckling. Joyce and her brother, Arthur “Steven” Suckling, were raised in England. Joyce fell in love with Tom Apesos while he was stationed in England with the United States Air Force. They started their family in England before moving back to the United States. After being stationed in Florida and North Carolina, Tom and Joyce moved to Weirton with their three children. Tom retired from the Air Force and worked for the US Postal Service, and Joyce took care of their home. She loved to plant flowers around her home and was active in her children’s activities. In addition, she volunteered her time with the campfire girls, taught Sunday School at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, and volunteered at the Weirton Area Ambulance and Rescue Squad. Most of all, Joyce will be remembered for her private and strong-willed nature and the love she had for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Tom in 1993, and most recently her son-in-law, Darrell Curtis, in 2021. She will be remembered with love by her children, Tony and Tom Apesos, and Angelina “Angie” Curtis; her grandchildren, Alexis (Tyler) Riggs, Tommy Curtis, Megan, Tony, Jr., Jordan, and Tyler Apesos; her step-grandchildren, Danielle (Terry) Gajtka, Darci (Jason) Dubrasky, Darrick Curtis (Heidi); great-grandchildren, Paxton, Ezekiel, and Taylen Riggs; step-great-grandchildren, Kaeleen (Casey) Bruce, Dacoda Curtis, Madelyn, Colton, Dominic Luke Dubrasky, Sutton and Hudson Bruce Private services will be held at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home. Joyce will be laid to rest by her husband at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton to help her family with funeral related expenses.
