Kathleen "Kate" Pernell, 81, of Weirton, passed away Sunday, October 17, 2010 in the Weirton Medical Center. Born August 19, 1929 in Clarksburg, WV, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Mable Sellers Lamp. She was also preceded in death by her husband James Pernell in August, 1972, sons Richard Lyn Pernell and James Ora Pernell, her companion Ernie Strohmeyer and great-granddaughter Kayla Poplowski. Mrs. Pernell worked for 22 years at the Weirton Bus Terminal, followed by 15 years of service as a cashier for the Main Street Quik Mart and More in Weirton. She loved caring for her dogs, enjoyed flea markets, garage sales, collecting antique cigarette lighters and figurines. Mrs. Pernell is survived by her sons Larry Joe Pernell and his wife Sharon of Barnesville, OH and Ray Pernell and his wife Debbie of Weirton; daughters Judy Magnone and her husband Bill of Weirton, Peggy Pernell Sponaugel of Alexandria, VA and Wendy Rodgers and her husband Fred of Weirton; daughter-in-law Carol Pernell of Weirton; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; 1 step-granddaughter and 2 step-great grandchildren. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where funeral services will be celebrated at 11AM Thursday. The Reverend Larry Barkley will officiate. Private interment will held at the convenience of Mrs. Pernell�s family.

  1. Kate will always hold a special place in the heart of all her family and friends. Her home wherever it was-was the place everyone would gather during the holidays and she always welcomed everyone. We loved her and will miss her terribly.

I thought about you yesterday, And days before that too. I think of you in silence, I often speak your name. All I have are memories, And your picture in a frame.   3. Peggy, So sorry about the loss of your mom. God has special plans for her and she is so happy now. Dont think of her as how you last saw her, sick in that bed, think of her healthy and happy and looking down on her family and being so proud of you all. I pray the years of memories with your mom finds you peace. Im very happy I got to see you again, but sorry it was under these circumstances.
