Larry R. Mitchell

Larry R. Mitchell, 56, of Weirton, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2006 at the Valley Hospice Palliative Care Unit in Steubenville, OH. Born April 27, 1950 in Steubenville, Ohio, he was the son of Vay Hall Mitchell of New Cumberland, WV and the late Lawrence Ray Mitchell. Larry was also preceded in death by his grandparents Mr. & Mrs. Roy Mitchell and Mr. & Mrs. R. B. Hall.
Larry worked as a carpenter, welder and builder in the Tin Mill Carpentry Shop for Weirton Steel, currently Mittal Steel. He was a member of Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church. He was an avid turkey & deer hunter, fisherman and master carpenter who volunteered his time for the Panhandle Bike Trail. He enjoyed sports, especially racquetball.
In addition to his mother, Larry is survived by his wife Suzanne Young Mitchell of Weirton, whom he married June 28, 1975; son Matthew Mitchell and his fiancé Kelly Anderson of Baltimore, MD; daughter Megan McGrogan and her husband Mickey of Weirton; brother Bernie Mitchell and his companion Barbara of Louisville, KY; sister Frances Brandolino and her companion Rick Majoris of Weirton; sister & brother-in laws, Sharon and Walter Bish; Stacy Kemp & Kevin Wagner and Patty and Adam Hudek.
The family will receive friends Friday 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10AM Saturday at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church. Reverend Father Stephen Dube will officiate. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery.

Hey Buddy, I will always remember our times together, whether it was down in “Mantown”, or trying to see who could outlast who on the tennis courts on vacation,(100+ degrees!). I will always cherish our times together and think back on them and smile…like the time that you swore we could ride our bikes up the beach to Virginia Beach, but “somebody” forgot about the tide. Thank goodness the locals liked West Virginians and gave us a beer. I will miss you deeply and will never forget you. You will always be a part of my life. I love you. Your Buddy, Clark

His Hands His hand were so big they held the world in them… They built the house that sheltered his family, They held his wife’s hand through this journey called life, They held his babies and as they grew, he supported them no matter what they did. They shook hands and made friends with many people from many places and they all loved him and he saw them for what they were, not what others thought. He had a special bond with people, and kids loved him, because even Logan wanted to build everything with “Uncle Nake” as he called him. And we will never forget his hands… His hands that made beauty out of wood, His hands that held his wife, His hands that prayed, His hands that tucked his children in at night, His hands that befriended everyone, Because he touched so many with his good heart. His hands were so big, they held the world in them…Our World!
