Lee R. Varner, 56, of Weirton, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at his home. Born July 24, 1948 in Weirton, he was the son of the late Charles F. and Zelma B. Ross Varner. Lee was also preceded in death by his brother Charles E. Varner. After 24 years of service, Lee retired from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department where he served as Deputy Sheriff. He was a former owner of the North 12th Street Radiator Shop in Weirton. He was currently working for Mountaineer Race Track & Gaming Resort in Chester. He was an AARP member and served in the US Army. Lee’s survivors include his son Lee Aaron Varner of Welsh County, WV; granddaughter Alyssa Varner of Weirton; brother James N. Varner and his wife Sylvia of Weirton; nephew and niece Charles and Susanna Varner of Weirton with whom he made his home. He also leaves several great and great-great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday from 2-4 and 7-9PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where funeral services will be conducted at 11:00AM on Saturday with Rev. Patty Bucey Beagle presiding. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Weirton with military services being conducted by the VFW Firing Squad and the Evert Maki American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard.
