lois dick
Lois Mae Dick, a loving, caring mother, and grandmother passed away at her home on Easter Sunday, with her family at her side. She was 80 years old, and a Weirton resident of 51 years. Born on March 3rd, 1940, in Steubenville, OH, Lois was the second child to the late Maurice and Lillian Mabel (Boyd) Smurthwaite. Lois grew up in Steubenville, OH, worked at Mucci Printing K Mart in Robinson Township and Weirton and retired from Kroger in Wellsburg, WV. Lois enjoyed going to yard sales, frequently buying from one, and reselling the items from her yard sale. Her big heart made it natural for her to care for others in need. She was often caring for friends and family when they were sick and dying. Even though she was feisty and stubborn, she was always the first to step up. She was a member of the Four Seasons, Three Score, Hancock County Senior Center. In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Dick, her two sons, Kevin and Thomas Hickey, and her brother, Ronald Smurthwaite. She will be remembered with love by her son, Donald (Lisa) Hickey, daughters, Melinda (Richard) Hart, Brenda Hickey, Karyn Kovach, and Dyane Dick; her two sisters, grandchildren, Danielle Hickey, Brice (Kameron Miller) Hickey, Jessica Hart, Joanna (Randy)Blythe; great-grandchildren, Christopher Wood, Riley Blythe, and Jaxon Warren; a nephew, who was very dear to her, David (Tammy) Smurthwaite; and many good friends and relatives. Private services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The service will be live-streamed on the Greco Hertnick Facebook page, or a link will be provided to view the service on the Greco Hertnick website www.grecohertnick.com on Mrs. Dick’s tribute wall. Please send messages or video links to her tribute wall or send a Hug from Home via the Greco Hertnick Website. A public memorial service will be held at a later time.

  7. Miss Lois was such a wonderful, caring, and giving person. She treated myself and the kids like we were her own family. She was always there for us no matter what. I have so many memories with her but this is the one that meant the most. When you move away you think your friends will always stay in touch or come visit. I learned the hard way this is not true. But the ones who truly love and care about you will be there no matter how far. Miss Lois, Sis, and Karen were the only ones who showed up to visit and let us know we were loved and missed and not forgotten. I am forever grateful to her for that. (Sis and Karen also) I don’t come down there hardly at all anymore and I had no idea she had been in the hospital for so long. I wish I would have gotten to say goodbye. For that I am truly sorry. But please know how Miss Lois touched our lives and I thank God We got the chance to spend those 7 years living next door to her and meeting all of you. We love you all!! Love, Leia, Kayla, McKenzie, and Terry
