M. Joan Raiders, 81, of Weirton, passed away Monday, May 12, 2008 at the Weirton Medical Center. Born May 18, 1926 in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late Savias Talmon and Josephine Marcella Evans Christian. Joan was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Raiders; son, David Raiders; brother, Robert Christian; sister, Betty Chavern; and one grandson. Joan was a homemaker and a member of the St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church. Joan's survivors include her four sons, Robert Raiders Jr of Houston, TX, Paul Raiders of Conifer, CO, James Raiders of Green Bay, WI, and Rich Raiders of Philadelphia, PA; two daughters, Carol Adcock of Fuquay-Varina, NC and Linda Heffer of Kariong, New South Wales in Australia; one brother, Thomas Christian; three sisters, Nancy Costanzo, Barbara Rafaelle, and Marilyn Christian; and 7 grandchildren. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 14, 2008 from 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be 10AM Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Weirton, with Fr. Dean Borgmeyer as celebrant. Interment will be at St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton. Donations in memory of Joan can be made to the American Cancer Society, Hancock County Unit, P.O. Box 2166, Weirton, WV 26062. I regret not being able to return to Weirton to visit with you folks after all these years. (Richard and I connected a couple years ago in Cincinnati.) All my memories of Joan are fond ones – she did well to put up with all those Fenskes next door for so many years. My mom will be representing us at the services.
