M.Patrick McKenna, 77, of Weirton passed away Tuesday September 27, 2016, at Lifeline Hospital, Wintersville, OH. Born on April 14, 1939, in Weirton, WV, Malcom Patrick was a son of the late John and Helen Wakefield McKenna. He was also preceded in death by his wife of over 56 years, Gloria Ann Veltri McKenna, on May 14, 2016. A highly intelligent man, Pat was also a talented athlete, playing basketball, running track, and swimming. Prior to his employment at Weirton Steel, where he operated a drill press in the Tin Mill Machine Shop, Pat was a member of the West Virginia University Swim Team. His love for sports carried on throughout his life, as he was Past President of the Weirton Termite Basketball and Baseball Leagues, and was also the equipment manger of the Weirton Steelers. After his son, John finished playing sports, he enjoyed attending his grandson's sporting events and his granddaughter's musicals. He and his wife would often show up an hour early to take their seats. In his pastime, Pat enjoyed operating his Ham Radio, working on his latest and greatest computer, and taking his wife to Dee Jay's. Most of all, Pat will always be remembered for his love of his wife and family. Pat is survived by his son, John McKenna (Cindy) of Follansbee, WV, two daughters, Jodi DeFilippis (Dino) of Orange Park, FL and Patti McCune (Dan) of Weirton, WV; a brother, John McKenna of Las Vegas, NV; sister, Kay McKenna Sutton of Weirton; and two grandchildren, Devon and Patrick McCune. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 Wednesday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Thursday at Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church , Weirton Rev. Fr. Tony Thurston will preside. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton. Malcolm cherished you all an d his wife so very much . He always looked forward to see you all on your visits .So sadly missed by myself and other co-workers . My prayers go to you all now during this time .May you all feel God’s peace and love knowing your Dad is safe in God’s arms now with his beloved wife and so free of pain .
