Mario Colantonio, 89, of Weirton, passed away Monday, September 19, 2016, at Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville, OH. Born July 25, 1927, in Steubenville, OH, he was a son of the late Antonio Colantonio and Genevieve Gallupoli Colantonio Schiappa. He was also preceded in death by his step father, Espedito "Speedy" Schiappa; his brother, John Colantonio; his sister and brother in law, Ida Mae and Lynn Littleton; and by his wife, who he loved more than life itself, Rosemarie Merenda Colantonio on May 26, 2016. Mario graduated from Follansbee High School and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He retired from Weirton Steel as a bundler after 46 years of service. An avid golfer, Mario often shot his age until he was 75 years old. A very patriotic and devoted man, Mario cherished his wife, children, and grandchildren. In their younger years, Mario and his wife had a very busy social schedule, as they loved to socialize with their friends. Cooking, canning, listening to music and setting up his trains were also among his favorite pastimes. He will always be remembered for his bean soup, fried eggs, and chicken cacciatore. Mario was a member of Saint Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Holy Name, Knights of Columbus 3734, Fourth Degree Assembly, Weirton Steel 25 Year Club, and the American Legion Post 10. He is survived by his son, Mark (LuAnne) Colantonio; daughters Maria Colantonio and Toni (David) Yazbek, all of Weirton; his grandchildren, who were the apples of his eye, Francesca, and Alexandra Yazbek, Mark "Alex" and Lea Colantonio; his sister in law, Rita Colantonio; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 4-8PM at the Greco- Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM Thursday at St. Paul Catholic Church. Reverend Father Larry Dorsch will officiate. Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Honor Guard will stand honor at the church. Entombment will follow at St. Paul Mausoleum, with military honors conducted by the American Legion Honor Guard and the United States Navy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church, 140 Walnut Street, Weirton, WV 26062, Madonna High School, 150 Michael Way, Weirton, WV 26062 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.   10. Toni, Maria & Mark: You are in the Horvath family prayers. I was in Florida visiting my Mom when my Aunt Mary Lou called to tell us of your Dads passing. Mom told me some stories about the old card club and the many dinners and trips with your Mom & Dad. It was such a fond remembrance. We lost my Dad in January but Mom is doing OK. Stay strong & cherish the memories.
