Martha J. Stone

Martha J. Stone, 92 of Weirton died Saturday September 22, 2001 at the Weirton Medical Center. She was born on June 28, 1909 in Monessen, PA, the daughter of the late Jesse and Alice Dunn McGowan. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank R. Stone on August 2 1970 and her son, Edward A. Stone on May 16, 1974 and a brother Thomas McGowan. She taught school at Cove Elementary School in Weirton, She was an avid reader and loved to quilt and crochet. She was a volunteer at the Mary H. Weir Library and the Senior Center in New Cumberland. Martha was a member of the Paris Presbyterian Church, AARP. WTCU and the Golden Age Club. Her daughter, Mrs. Rich (Mary Jane) Sharrow of Weirton and her four grandchildren Richard and Steven Sharrow of Weirton and Joseph Sharrow of Fredericksburg, VA and Kristy Sharrow Anderson of Parkersburg, WV, 6 great grandchildren, a sister in law Mae McGowan of New Cumberland and 2 nephews Thomas McGowan of Weirton and David McGowan of New Cumberland, survive. Visitation will be Monday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday. The Rev. Kirk A. Erwin will officiate. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mary H.
