mary brancazio
Mary Yolanda DiBenedetto Brancazio, 96, of Weirton died at her home on Monday, October 19, 2020. Born on December 27, 1923, in Steubenville, OH, Mary was the daughter of the late John and Lena DiBenedetto. On November 12, 1949, she married Joseph Cosmo Brancazio, with whom she celebrated 51 years of marriage. A graduate of Catholic Central High School, Mary worked at the A&P in Steubenville before her marriage. A devout Catholic, Mary was a member of St Paul Roman Catholic Church for more than 70 years and watched Mass and said her rosary daily. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and recently welcomed her first great-granddaughter. Her love of cooking was evidenced when she shared recipes for her delicious meatballs and wedding soup. She was an avid card and bingo player, liked politics, and was a staunch Democrat until the end. Her characteristic quips, “To make a long story short,” and “Can I tell you something?”, began every one of her never-so-short stories. Mary embraced life fully and showed great courage in combatting end-of-life illness. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Joseph (Joe Brown) Brancazio, and her brothers, Frank (Lena) and John (Dorothy) DiBenedetto. She is survived by her children, Joanne (Stanley) Rusinovich of Weirton, Gisele (David) Tackla of Strongsville, OH, and Mark Brancazio of Weirton; her grandchildren, Dr Ryan Tackla of Cincinnati, OH, and Alex (Brittney) Brancazio of Canonsburg, PA; her great-granddaughter, Grace Kathleen Brancazio; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Paul Roman Catholic Church on Friday, October 23, 2020, at 10:30 am; an interment will follow at St Paul Cemetery, Weirton. The family wishes to thank the Weirton Geriatric Center where she resided for two years, hospice, and all other caregivers during her convalescence. The family is grateful for all the expressions of kindness and support extended by relatives and friends. “Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love.” ~ Mother Teresa Memorial contributions may be made to St Paul Church in Weirton.
