Devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Mary Ellen Jenkins, 70, of Weirton, died peacefully Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at her home with her loving family by her side. Born November 5, 1940 in Follansbee, WV, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Mildred V. Braun Long. She was also preceded in death by her husband Lyndall D. Jenkins on April 4, 2011, son Charles Eugene Long, grandson Roger D. Brewer, brothers James and John Jackson and sister Patricia M. Long. Mrs. Jenkins was a homemaker. She was a devoted member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church where she served as an AWANA leader, deaconess and volunteered in the church nursery and vacation Bible school. She was also a life member of the VFW Post 10 Ladies Auxiliary. Mary Ellen is survived by her sons Chester Long and his wife Sheila and Brian Jenkins and his wife Diane all of Weirton; daughters Mary Lou Gaston and her companion David Mercer of Weirton, Barbara Byrd and her husband Rusty of Florida, Laura Ann Long and her companion Bob Sutton of Weirton and Shellie Fornwalt also of Weirton; brothers Gary, Chuck and Rick Long all of New Cumberland and Paul Evans of Florida; sisters Barbara and Janet Porter of Ohio; 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Friday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where funeral services will be celebrated 2pm Saturday. The Reverend Peter Leonovich will officiate. Interment will be in the New Cumberland Cemetery.
