mary ashbee
Mary Margaret Ashbee of Weirton, WV, the matriarch of the Ashbee and Gonzales families, passed away at her home on Sunday, November 21, 2021. She was 90 years old. Mary Margaret was born to Amado and Gumecinda Ruiz Gonzales in Mannington, WV, on January 6, 1931. She married Edmund G. Ashbee, and with over fifty years of marriage, they were blessed with five children, nine grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Edmund was an Army veteran of World War II and worked on the caster of Weirton Steel, and Mary took care of their home. She loved to cook, plant flowers around her home, and enjoy bowling and embroidery in her free time. She loved her Pittsburgh Steelers. But, most importantly, Mary was the person to whom family members looked for guidance. She was always there when you needed help. Her strong personality was admired through the generations. She was a well-respected Gram and Mimi. She was an American Legion Ladies Auxiliary member and volunteered many hours at the Weirton Medical Center. In addition to her parents, sadly, Mary was preceded in death by her grandson, Jason Humberson, on June 3, 1989; her husband, Edmund G. Ashbee, on July 6, 1999; her daughter, Jessica Woofter, on November 3, 2002; her six brothers, Edward, Daniel, Joseph, and Henry Gonzales and Jesse and Charles Sabala; her sisters, Antonia Gonzales, Lucy Chisam, and Isabelle Quimet. She will be remembered with love and admiration by her son, Charles E. Ashbee, her daughters, Christie Humberson (Terry), Laura Osaba, and Brenda Ashbee; her eight grandchildren, and her ten great-grandchildren. As per Mary’s wishes, she will be cremated. Her family will gather privately at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, and she will be laid to rest next to her husband. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jason Humberson Memorial Scholarship Share tributes and memories with Mary’s family at www.grecohertnick.com

  4. A poem I wrote a few months ago for Margaret. My Great Aunt When I think of Margaret I see a mama bear A strong maternal heart Who protects and always cares For each generation That she swaddles and adores You can see in every photo That she loves them to the core Forever Always there Yes, the glue of the family Steadfast and trusting Through good and calamity A genuine home maker Who really imbues her home From the clock in the kitchen To the backyard garden gnome I can see her watching tv In her chair, legs folded under As we talk and share our stories Her face lightens up with wonder Margaret always speaks with kindness Very sweet, like molasses And she’s such a great listener As she gleams over her glasses I remember she loves games Having fun and Facebook scrolling When I came in for a visit She was often out there bowling! Young at heart and young in soul The angels watch and smile As she beams her love to everyone She’s dearly loved all the while Rest In Peace. Rest in Love. Your spirit lives on in our heats and memories. ❤️ Love Becky
