Mary Waskevich, 89, a talented artist, and gifted musician of Weirton, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2021. Mary was born November 7, 1931, in Weirton to John and Emily Blanar. She graduated from Weir High School in 1950 and married John Waskevich on June 9, 1951. John and Mary were blessed with three children six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren in their 70 plus years of marriage. John worked at Weirton Steel and Mary took care of their home. They were fortunate to spend many years together traveling in their motor home. Mary was a talented Easter Egg Artist, musician, and bowler. She was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church where she served as choir director. She also served as Governor of Pittsburgh District OCA. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband John Waskevich on November 15, 2020, daughter Diane Waskevich in 2007, and her brother John Blanar. Mary is survived by her sons William J. “Bill” Waskevich and his wife Joyce and Paul Waskevich; sisters Irene Pannill and Emily Mattice; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Tuesday 11:00 AM until 1 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV., where services will be held at 1 PM Interment will follow in Saint Nicholas Orthodox Cemetery, Weirton Share tributes and memories at www.grecohertnick.com 304-748-3219.

  4. I wish to extend my prayerful support as you grieve the loss of Mary. Everytime I prepare to decorate eggs I think of her, having taken a class she provided back in the 1970’s. You have my deepest sympathy.

  5. Sorry for the loss of your mother, she was very talented, fun loving, and a;ways had a very poaitive attitude. She gave my parents , Nick and Nora Czaruk beautiful pysanka for their 50th wedding anniversary which we still have and May her Memory Be Eternal.
